Star Island, New Hampshire - #

Star is a small island 7 miles off the coast of New Hampshire. The only year-round resident is a caretaker. The conference center is operated by the Unitarian Church in the summer months. You can see the ocean from almost every spot and every room. The conditions are a throwback to an earlier era - one light bulb and no hot running water in the rooms (you shower in the main building - 3 days a week). It does create a special atmosphere - you truly are "away."
